Making the right decision when choosing legal representation is crucial when you have had an injury that is not your fault.
PI claims can take time and so it is important you are comfortable discussing all aspects of your claim and your injuries with your chosen legal representative.
At Coles Miller our main objective is to ensure that you get the compensation you need and deserve for the injuries you have sustained. In order to achieve this, trust between the client and the solicitor is crucial.
Experience
Choose a solicitor who has significant experience handling cases similar to yours. Ask about their success rate in securing compensation for their clients with similar injuries. Speak with the solicitor and if unhappy with the answers, ask for another litigator in the department. It is perfectly reasonable if you believe the solicitor hasn’t grasped the claim.
Credentials
Make sure that the solicitor you choose is qualified and registered with the relevant governing bodies. Check their professional background, education, and credentials before hiring them. Read the firm’s website to learn more about the team and their experience.
Specialisms
Consider hiring a solicitor who only specialises in personal injury claims, rather than one who handles a wide range of legal matters. A specialist solicitor will have a deeper understanding of the laws and regulations governing personal injury claims. They will also have established relationships with medical experts and Barristers who specialise in your injury.
Communication
Choose a solicitor who communicates clearly and regularly with you throughout the process. They should be available to answer your questions and provide updates on the progress of your case. Most good solicitors will offer a free chat to discuss your case at a high-level, use this to help you decide if the solicitor is right for your case.
Transparency
A good solicitor will be transparent about the process and fees involved in handling your case. Make sure you understand their fee structure and any costs that you may be responsible for.
Recommendations
Ask for recommendations from family, friends, or other professionals who have worked with personal injury solicitors in the past. You can also check online reviews and testimonials to gauge the solicitor's reputation.
Location
It may be beneficial to choose a solicitor who is located close to you or your case's jurisdiction. This can make it easier to meet in person and attend court hearings or meetings. That said, most good law firms can accommodate claims all over the country as much of the correspondence can be emailed and teleconferencing meetings can easily be arranged.
