UPDATED: 15 September 2022

Coles Miller Solicitors are raising more than £3,000 for hospitals in Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch by sponsoring this year's Walk for Wards fundraiser.

Poole’s Upton House and its award-winning Country Park had been the venue for the 17 September 2022 charity walk.

But following the sad death of Her Majesty The Queen, the fundraiser for University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity has now become an online event. So walkers – including a team from Coles Miller – will still be able raise vital cash for local hospitals.

University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity corporate fundraiser Hayley Harris said: "We are now in an official period of mourning. As an NHS trust, we are following protocol and postponing non-medical events during this time. This includes fundraising events.

"Whilst we have endeavoured to look at alternative dates, this has not been possible. We trust that you understand in these difficult circumstances.

"We are now calling on you to take part in Walk for Wards 2022 ‘virtually’. You can complete your chosen walk at a time and place to suit you. You may even wish to follow our planned routes around Upton Country Park, taking in the stunning scenery through woodlands and along Poole Bay."

All registrants will be sent a copy of the routes, event bib and finishers medal by post.

Organisers are aiming to beat the £12,700 raised by 250 walkers at last year’s Walk for Wards, which was held at Somerley House near Ringwood.

Hayley said: “Walk for Wards is your opportunity to do something amazing for a ward or department close to your heart. What better way to say ‘thank you’ and show your love for our hospitals.”

Coles Miller Marketing Director Nick Balchin said: “We’re very grateful for this opportunity to help the NHS, and to say ‘thank you’ in a tangible way that benefits local people.

“We all owe a huge debt of gratitude to the NHS, especially after what’s happened over the last two years.

“The NHS continues to face huge pressures so we all need to help them – they’re always there for us,” he added.

Earlier this year, Coles Miller again sponsored the annual Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride, donating more than £1,000 in sponsorship. Coles Miller has been supporting the Macmillan event since 2019.
